AI Hug Video With Your Younger Self
An AI hug video turns two separate photos into a short clip in which both people move toward each other and really hug. Here the two photos are you as a child and you today: add one of each and get a 5- or 10-second MP4 of the grown-up you and the little you holding each other.

What is an AI hug video with your younger self?
An AI hug video is a short clip made from two separate photos: an image-to-video model reads each photo as one person, places both in the same scene and animates them turning to each other and hugging. The format took off in late 2024, when people began turning two ordinary photos into hug clips with AI video tools; families used it for grandparents and loved ones who live far away or have passed.
The younger-self version pairs a photo of you as a child with a photo of you now. In 2025 it spread as a still picture: the Gemini "Hug My Younger Self" prompt produces one Polaroid-style image of the adult and the child embracing. That is a photo, not a video. This page makes the moving version, where the two of you actually come together, hold the hug and ease apart.
Some hug templates in phone editors only slide one photo into the other or zoom between them. Before you spend credits anywhere, two questions sort the real tools from the slideshows:
- Does it accept two separate photos? Yes. One photo of each person, uploaded separately; you never have to paste the two of you into one picture first.
- Does it generate a real hug movement? Yes. The model animates both people turning toward each other, raising their arms and embracing in one continuous shot. It is not a photo transition.

How to make an AI hug video with your younger self
1. Pick the two photos
Choose a childhood photo where your face is clear and you are alone (crop siblings out), and a recent photo of you facing the camera. Photograph a print flat, next to a window, without flash. Add one to each slot; the setting follows Photo 1.
2. Choose gentle or reunion
Gentle starts with the two of you close together and settles into a quiet hug. Reunion has you notice each other, step closer, hug and end with a small smile toward the camera, the classic "meeting my younger self" beat.
3. Set model, length and frame
Seedance 2.0 Mini at 5 seconds is the cheapest test. Use 10 seconds for a slower approach under a song, 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 16:9 for a family slideshow, and Seedance 2.0 Pro for 1080p.
4. Generate and download
Tick the consent box and press Generate. The price is on the button and is charged once; a failed video is refunded. When it is ready, download the MP4 and add music, a caption or a Polaroid frame in your editor.
Choosing the two photos (and fixing old childhood prints)
| Your childhood photo | What to do |
|---|---|
| Faded or yellowed print | Re-photograph it in daylight, flat on a table, then raise contrast a little. Keep the edit light: heavy "AI restore" filters can redraw your face into someone else's. |
| Black-and-white photo | Upload it as it is. The model usually colours both people to match the scene. Colourise first only if you need exact hair or clothing colours, and check the face still looks like you. |
| Tiny wallet or school photo | Scan or photograph it as large as possible. Each side must be at least 300 px; below that the face turns soft and the model has little to keep. |
| Group photo with siblings or parents | Crop to just you. With two faces in one slot the model has to guess who to animate and may add a third person. |
| Only your head and shoulders | It works, but the model invents the body below the frame. A photo that shows you to the waist keeps the child's size and clothes closer to the original. |
| Photo of a photo with glare | Tilt the print until the reflection leaves the face, or shoot from slightly above. Glare across the eyes is the most common reason a child's face drifts. |
| iPhone HEIC or Live Photo | Upload from Safari, which usually converts to JPG, or export the still as JPG first. The generator takes JPG, PNG and WebP. |
Should you restore or colourise first? Only lightly. A straightened, cropped, glare-free scan helps more than an AI face restore, which can change exactly the features you want to keep.
Same person, two ages: keeping the adult and the child apart
Different clothes
Pick photos where the outfits differ in colour. Clothing is the easiest cue the model has for telling the two people apart through the hug.
A clearly young child
A photo at age 4–9 works better than a teenage one: the bigger the age gap, the less the model is tempted to average the two faces.
Start with 5 seconds
Less time in contact means less time for the faces to drift. Move to 10 seconds once a 5-second test keeps both of you.
Gentle before reunion
Gentle keeps the motion small and the faces apart for longer. Reunion has more movement and ends with both turning toward the camera, which shows any drift clearly.
Height is the model's call
The prompt asks for both people waist up but does not tell the adult to kneel. Models usually bring the adult down to the child's height by sitting or crouching; if yours does not, try 16:9, which leaves more room for both.
Gentle or reunion, 5 or 10 seconds: settings for a younger-self hug
| Setting | Choose it when |
|---|---|
| Gentle (default) | You want a quiet, reflective clip: already side by side, the two of you turn and settle into a calm hug with a small smile. |
| Reunion | You are telling a "meeting my younger self" story: you notice each other, step closer, open your arms, hug, and ease apart toward the camera. |
| 5 seconds | First tries, the lowest price and the least face drift. Hug from about 1.5 s to 4 s. |
| 10 seconds | A slower approach and a five-second embrace, long enough to carry a song in a Reel. |
| 9:16 or 16:9 | 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts; 16:9 for YouTube, a TV at a family event, or when the adult and child need more room side by side. |
| Sound off or on | Off (default) if you will add music in the app you post to. On adds soft room sound only; the model never adds speech or music. |
| 480p, 720p or 1080p | 480p for tests, 720p (default) for phone feeds, 1080p on Seedance 2.0 Pro for a big screen or a cleaner Polaroid crop. |
The AI hug video prompt this generator sends
Create a 10-second natural, affectionate hug video using exactly two uploaded identity-reference images. Image 1 defines person A; image 2 defines person B. Keep each person's own facial features, age, skin tone, hair, body proportions and clothing distinct throughout. Do not merge faces, swap identities or invent a third person. Place both people together in a simple, softly lit setting inspired by image 1. Match the lighting without changing either identity. Show both from at least the waist up with their arms visible. Use one steady eye-level medium shot, no cuts, zooms or photo transitions. Seconds 0–3: they notice each other, smile and take one small step closer. Seconds 3–8: both open their arms and share a warm reunion hug, with believable arm placement and gentle contact. Seconds 8–10: hold the embrace, ease their heads slightly apart and share a small smile toward the camera if natural. Keep faces slightly offset at three-quarter angles so neither face passes through the other. Hands rest naturally on the shoulders or upper back, with no extra fingers, limbs or intersecting arms. No kissing, talking, fantasy transformations, angel wings, captions, logos or watermarks. Silent video, no music and no speech.
Gentle swaps the timeline for a calm turn-and-hug, 5 seconds compresses the timings (approach 0–1.5 s, hug 1.5–4 s, hold 4–5 s), and sound on replaces the last line with soft ambient sound. You can paste this prompt into another image-to-video model that takes two reference images, such as a reference or elements mode.
Adding a Polaroid ending, music and captions after you download
The Polaroid look
Place the MP4 inside a white instant-photo frame template in CapCut or the Instagram editor, or end on the last frame as a still with a handwritten date. Pick 9:16 or 16:9 to match the frame you will use.
Music
Leave sound off and add a song from the platform's own library when you post. Songs baked into the file can be muted when the clip is reposted to another app.
Captions and the AI label
Say it is AI in the caption (for example "me and little me, AI video") and switch on the AI-generated label TikTok, Instagram and YouTube offer. It is your own face, but viewers still deserve to know.
A compilation
Each video is one pair of photos. For a montage of several ages, generate each pair separately at the same length and frame, then join them in your editor.

AI hug video FAQ
Is the younger-self AI hug video the same as the Gemini Polaroid picture?
Same idea, different output. The Gemini "Hug My Younger Self" trend makes one still Polaroid-style image. This AI hug generator makes a video in which you and your younger self move toward each other and hug. If you like the Polaroid look, add the frame after you download.
Can the adult kneel, the child run in, and the clip end like a Polaroid?
Partly. Choose Reunion and 10 seconds for an approach, a hug and a smile at the end. The prompt does not script who kneels or runs, so the model picks the movement; adults are usually brought down to the child's height. The Polaroid ending is added afterwards in an editor.
Why do the two faces melt together, and is it worse with two photos of me?
Faces blend when they overlap during the hug, and two photos of the same person look alike to begin with. Use outfits of different colours, a clearly young childhood photo, 5 seconds and the Gentle style. The built-in prompt already keeps the faces at three-quarter angles and forbids merging them.
Should I restore or colourise my faded childhood photo first?
Usually not. Re-photograph it flat in daylight, crop to just you and remove glare. The model colours black-and-white photos on its own. Strong AI restoration can change your face, which defeats the point.
Can I use one photo where both people already stand together?
No. This AI hug video generator needs two separate photos, one person in each. For a younger-self hug that is natural anyway: the child and the adult are never in the same photo.
Is it free, and can I download the MP4 without a watermark?
The sign-up bonus covers one 5-second 480p video (from 3 credits, ≈$0.24), downloaded as a full MP4 with a small moving watermark. Any one-time credit pack removes the watermark from new videos and unlocks clean copies of earlier ones.
Do I need an app, or does it work in a phone browser?
No app. It runs in Safari or Chrome on a phone and in any desktop browser; the MP4 downloads to your camera roll or gallery.
